Loading Control Antibodies for Western Blot
Loading controls are constitutively expressed proteins from housekeeping genes detected at high levels in a cell type or sample. Loading controls are used to confirm successful gel loading and protein transfer. When analyzing your results, loading controls are used to normalize levels of detected proteins for quantification. Finally, they are part of good experimental design to support your data.
To select the appropriate loading control, the molecular weight of the loading control protein should be easily distinguished from the expected molecular weight of your experimental target protein. In the chart below we have included the molecular weight detected by the loading control antibodies and whether the protein is expressed in whole cell lysates or a specific subcellular fraction.
