| Function | Interferon-gamma–inducible protein 10 (IP-10), also known as CXCL10, is a member of the CXC chemokine family. IP-10 expression is triggered in monocytes, endothelial cells, fibroblasts, and epithelial cells in response to inflammatory cytokines—most notably Interferon-gamma (IFN-gamma). Functionally, IP-10 acts as a chemoattractant, guiding activated T lymphocytes (especially Th1 cells), natural killer (NK) cells, and monocytes to sites of inflammation. Additionally, IP-10 has been implicated in angiostasis in both inflammatory conditions and the tumor microenvironment. IP-10 binds to the G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR), CXCR3, expressed on activated Th1 cells, NK cells, and monocytes. |
