Function | Interleukin-4 (IL-4) is a cytokine involved in the regulation of immune and inflammatory responses. It promotes the differentiation of naïve T cells into Th2 cells, which in turn stimulate B cells to upregulate IgE antibodies. IL-4 is produced by mast cells, eosinophils, basophils and committed Th2 cells. There are two cell-dependent receptor complexes, either a heterodimer of IL-4 R alpha (CD124) and the common gamma chain (CD132) associated with hematopoietic cells or a heterodimer of IL-4 R alpha and IL-13 R alpha 1 (CD213A1) associated with non-hematopoietic cells. |
Tissue Specificity | IL-4 expression has been identified in lymph node and placenta. |
Cellular Localization | Secreted protein |
